Crayola Announces 60,000 sq.ft. Family Attraction to Open in Mall of America
Crayola Experience is slated to open summer 2016; This is the third location for the brand
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Get ready. Here comes color.
Crayola announced at a press conference today that it will bring its popular family attraction, Crayola Experience, to the Mall of America in the summer of 2016. This will be the third location for the brand, which just celebrated the grand opening of Crayola Experience Orlando on July 1.
Although best known for its iconic crayons and markers, the 112-year-old company now has more than 1,500 proprietary products and technologies, which serve as the inspiration for Crayola Experience's 25 hands-on activities and live entertainment. Crayola first dipped its paintbrush into the attractions industry in 2013, when the company re-imagined Crayola Experience's hometown facility in Easton, Pa. - the home of Crayola crayons since 1903. The attraction now welcomes hundreds of thousands of guests annually, and the company expects to host even greater numbers in Orlando and, soon, Minneapolis.
The 60,000 sq.ft. concept will be occupying the third-floor space currently used as The Exhibit Center, on the Southeast Court.
"The Mall of America is known as a family destination, and Crayola is a family brand loved by both parents and kids," Senior Vice President of Attractions and Retail Victoria Lozano said. "But beyond that, Crayola Experience is a family attraction that engages families in hands-on creative experiences, and we are really excited to bring this unique concept to this new, dynamic region."
The adventures of Crayola Experience help kids and adults alike explore art and technology, express their creativity and experience color in a whole new way. At Crayola Experience MOA, guests will enjoy classic experiences such as naming and wrapping their own Crayola crayon (Wrap it Up!), starring in their own coloring page (Be a Star), painting with melted wax, bringing their coloring page to life in 4-D with their touch (Color Magic) and learning how crayons are made in the live Factory Show, as well as some new ones that will debut in Minneapolis. Crayola Experience also is home to The Crayola Store, which has the world's largest selection of Crayola products and unique souvenirs, such as plush and apparel.
Crayola anticipates hiring up to 250 seasonal and full-time employees. The facility also will host private events, field trips and birthday parties.
